2.jpgCanaan Partners (in association with TiE) has rolled out the second edition of the TiE-Canaan Entrepreneurial Challenge, a national level business plan competition for early stage entrepreneurs in India. The business plans entered in the contest will be evaluated by a selection panel. Eight entries will be short-listed for mentoring before the final presentation to the jury. The top three winners will be announced in mid June. A bunch of goodies awaits the winners –

– Post event mentoring for 3 months by NASSCOM, Canaan Partners & members of the Jury.
– Direct participation in the Deal Flow Session at TiEcon Delhi 2008
– Coverage in print & electronic media, enabling them to build awareness about their companies & products

All the eight shortlisted entries will have access to investors from TiE, Indian Angel Network & other early stage investors during the final event.

The challenge is open to early stage Indian entrepreneurs who have already incorporated their companies in the areas of Technology or Services (i.e. IT, internet, software, telecom, mobile, education, BPO, KPO etc). This is where you can download the business plan template and this is where it needs to be uploaded for submission into the contest.

The previous edition of this contest was held in 2006 (which make this a bi-annual event) and its winners included Infozech Software, Vegayan & 6 Dee.

How browsers are the de-facto window to the World Wide Web?

This is a guest post I wrote for the news website Alootechie. It is about the evolution of web based applications and how they are slowly but surely replacing desktop applications. The post delves into the adoption pattern of web applications in India and how webapps offer a way to circumvent some of the typical problems that India begets.

In a sense, browsers are the de-facto window to the world wide web. Apart from the operating system, they are now the single most important software on a computer for a large number of users (for other users, this place would be occupied by MSOffice).

Head over to the article. And let me know where you agree or disagree with me.
