In my previous posts about photo sharing & printing sites, I had theorized how their online gifting business is likely to face competition from dedicated gifting portals. To see that competition in action, look no further beyond two websites, DilSeBol & Myntra. These sites offer a more comprehensive solution for online gifting. In fact their modus operandi has the potential to actuate the long tail and turn them into a full fledged bazaar for buying/selling online gifts. They also have the advantage of a clearly defined revenue model, unlike many other Web 2.0 ventures.
DilSeBol & Myntra both look very promising and they are quite similar. They allow you to either select from a ready collection of pre-designed gifts, or use a web interface to custom design your own. The gift items they offer are simple, daily use things like T Shirts, mugs, coasters etc (Myntra seems to have a slightly bigger set of items).
DilSeBol– Based out of Chennai, this has been started by a three member team with a diversified techno-managerial backgrounds. You can custom-create your own gift using their web interface (called Artist), that gets shipped to you in three days. And there is no MOQ; you can order just one piece. I think this is great, for if you were to get customized gifts made by your local vendor, there is bound to be an accompanying MOQ. This factor by itself could be one of their USPs. DilSeBol has a system of reward points whereby for every creation of yours that you offer for sale and someone else buys, you get reward points accrued in your account, that can be redeemed for other products. Their FAQ page has the pricing info for the items.
Myntra– Its catchline is “your style factory†and they offer a larger set of gifting items to choose from. Based out of Bangalore, Myntra seems more focused on building a complete marketplace around online gifting. Their community section showcases some featured designers, a monthly contest, besides listing upcoming events for promoting gifting. Designs can be rated or reviewed by users. Users who offer their creations for sale to others are compensated in cash (paid as a royalty of 10%). Myntra seems to be have a large library of designs (running into 1000sas per the website) to choose from.
I think these two websites could actually prove VERY USEFUL, not just to individuals but also to small to medium corporates, who are constantly running marketing promotions and need a steady stream of artifacts or collaterals as gift items (I can vouch for this from personal experience). Corporate gifting is a small industry and most organizations use local vendors for this purpose; if these websites can offer competitive prices and consistent quality, they have a HUGE market potential to tap into.
With these two sites, the online gifting space looks poised for some real competition. Look forward to how the photo printing guys react to this. I expect a shift in orientation for some of them.

Thanks Lakshmi for the tip-offs about the two sites.
Hi Amit,
This is definitely cool. But i must bring your attention to the post written by you on itasveer.com sometime back. There you discussed briefly about their tool called Doodlepad.
They have a online tool called Doodlepad which allows you to create designs which could be then printed on Tshirs and Mugs.
This Doodlepad is very unique, none of the online gifting site is offering such a rich tool.
They are in this space for more than a year now. And i have tried their services. I am very satisfied.
Ank,
Not sure how much difference an online tool make overall. Even if that tool is great (and it must be if you are saying it), still that does not help much overall.
As is pointed in the blogpost, these two websites are much more compelling when it comes to online gifting. They are trying to build a complete marketplace where as the photo sites just offer gifting as an additional feature.
I personally think the photo priting services are no match for these. They will be forced to change otherwise they will be left far behind in the race.

Very nice concept. If these can go beyond the t-shirts and stuff (check etsy.com).
Also another important thing which is very necessary is the ease of using the site and how user friendly it is. I haven’t check dilsebol but myntra is a long way from a decent user experience.
I used Myntra for making a mug design, and believe me, the process was less than what you could call ” User Friendly” . The concept is great and the working good, but usability needs to be given much more thought.
I would suggest them to use a Flash module for making designs and all, rather than the javascript thing they have now. It gets very cumbersome to wait for each change u make to load. It’s like the waiting for the whole page to reload everytime u change a small parameter.
Great concept, Great work.. Hope to see it made easier and more user friendly.. Definitely got a big market to cater to !
Wonderful!! but really its not that fancy. Now a days you can find such stuff in almost all the malls and supermarkets. May be something like Express Fashion modified according to Indian users and may be some strategic partnerships is needed for the initial establishment, but would definitely be a hit and women would be the best sales force for the site. 😉

I also found http://www.pringoo.com recently and bought a t-shirt from there. It was awesome. They have many varities of t-shirts and cool thing I found is there is no shipping and no tax. It is cheaper than myntra and t-shirt quality was very good.

Great concept. http://www.oxyshopping.com Indian shopping search. Shoppers can search various designs of t-shirt at http://oxyshopping.com All online Indian shopping stores at one place. Check out t-shirts and many more there.
Amit regarding your 9th comment, it would have been nice if you would have done some research before putting those numbers which is far beyond the reality. Take a small example, who said myntra has over 10000 designs? You can easily count on their site…
Hope to see your post based on some facts..
