Talentty… hitting the right recuiting notes, but needs better implementation

talenty1.jpgTalentty is a recruiting website with a few good ideas up it’s sleeves. It describes itself as a career matchmaking & specialized jobboard and is trying to adopt a bottoms-up approach to online recruitment. It comes from the same people who run JobMilan, a recruitment centric blog that aggregates jobs on the web and has a fair bit of following (it has close to 4000 RSS subscribers).

Talentty has specialized jobboards for different industries & job functions. For example- all software jobs can be found at software.talentty.com; walk-in jobs are available at walkin.talentty.com. For passive jobs seekers (who do not want to be actively hunting for jobs online), Talentty allows creation of anonymous profiles. They also have an ‘employer jobbord‘ section that lists all the jobs for a particular company (free of charge).

The website was launched a week back and does not show much activity at this stage. Having said that, I think some of their ideas are promising. The free employer jobboard could be easily spawned off into a hosted, customizable offering that employers could append (or redirect) to their own website. This would save employers the hassle of building their own jobs section. The seperate job boards for walkins, startups, freelancers, freshers etc could be serving useful niches. Though the website’s design/UI is fairly unimpressive and could do with much needed improvement.

I have blogged earlier about why the big online job portals, while doing a great job at serving the mass market, have become practically useless for particular types of recruitment requirements e.g – for startups; there is ample scope for innovative new recruitment modes or channels, specially ones that leverage technologies like RSS, mashups, aggregation etc.

StartupLunch…. startup hiring a la speed dating style

Main Page - Startup Lunch_1206209471560.png The team behind Proto has come up with a useful idea… it’s called Startuplunch and it’s meant to help startups & job seekers serenade each other before tying themselves into a hiring relationship. How is this supposed to work? Check out this excerpt from their website “…….the principle is roughly the same as the SpeedDating concept. The startup founders are seated on one side and the candidates get to say hello and have a quick conversation to talk about what the background of the founder is, why he started the company and what sort of person he is looking for, while asking questions to the candidate about the reason to join a startup and what his/her passions are and ten minutes later the same process continues with the next founder. Within an hour, you would have met/spoken to most of the startups, and by the end of the day would know whom to get in touch with for your first/next job….“. Just for clarity’s sake, this is not the job interview itself, rather a precursor to that.

And within a week of launching the initiative, the concept seems to have found quite a few takers. Check out the registrations in various cities – Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Delhi. The date & locations are yet to be announced.

I’d look forward to see how this actually blossoms out. The concept is somewhat similar to the job fairs that are organised by the job portals (naukri, timesjob) , except that it’s startup focused.

And oh yes! Something that’s missing from the website is the menu to be served at the lunch-:)
